Novato, CA-based garden products cataloger/ retailer Smith & Hawken hired Lisa Bayne as senior vice president of marketing. Most recently, Bayne was senior vice president, creative services for Eddie Bauer.

Shrewsbury, NJ-based Programmer’s Paradise, a cataloger of software for tech professionals, appointed Marc J. Lieberman vice president of sales. Prior to joining Programmer’s Paradise, he was vice president of sales and vice president of business development during an eight-year tenure at Micro Warehouse.

South St. Paul, MN-based outdoor gear and apparel cataloger The Sportsman’s Guide appointed Todd D. Peterson to its board of directors. Peterson founded and still serves as president of Spring House Capital, a private equity and venture capital firm.

Radnor, PA-based Airgas, a distributor of industrial, medical, and specialty gases and related supplies, hired Dean A. Bertolino as vice president/general counsel. Most recently, he served as assistant general counsel with The BOC Group.

Phoenix, AZ-based PetSmart appointed Robert F. Moran president/chief operating officer. Moran had been the company’s president of North American stores. He assumes the role from Philip L. Francis, who remains chairman/CEO. Moran will head the company’s retail, catalog, and Internet operations.

New York-based J. Crew Group appointed Blair Gordon executive vice president/creative director. Most recently, Gordon was executive vice president of specialty retail at Nautica Enterprises.

New York-based Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia appointed Shelley S. Nandkeolyar to the new position of executive vice president/president, Internet/direct commerce, which consists of the Martha Stewart Website and Martha by Mail catalog. Nandkeolyar was previously vice president of the e-commerce division of Williams-Sonoma.

New York-based ALC of New York, a mailing list services and consulting company, and catalog creative agency Shasho Jones Direct, headed by Glenda Shasho Jones, have formed a strategic alliance to bring clients a full range of services. The two groups will be located at ALC of New York’s headquarters.

Greenwich, CT-based Hudson Valley Marketing Association, a networking club for direct marketing professionals from Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey, named 13 new members to its board of directors: president, Amy Altmann of Boardroom; vice president/treasurer, David Schofield of Carl Bloom Associates; past president and adviser, Laura Smith of RMI Direct Marketing; education chair, Walter Neff of Mercy College; fundraising chair, John LaGreca of Federal Direct; cochairs/programming, Bob Sawyer of Sawyer Direct and Rich Mercado of Madison Direct Marketing; cochairs/publicity, Angela Briante of Spirit Marketing Services and Ken Kraetzer of CBSI; cochairs/membership, Tom Brady and Dennis Troyanos; cochairs/promotion, Lauretta Harris of Write Communications and Shira Linden of Promo-Writing/Circulation Specialists.

Mount Laurel, NJ-based distributor Roosevelt Paper Co. appointed Damien Stahl to its outside sales staff. He will work out of the company’s Chicago division in Forest Park, IL, and will cover southern Illinois and eastern Missouri. Stahl’s prior experience was in commercial sewing products, selling to accounts in the U.S. and throughout South America.
