Oshkosh, WI-based gifts cataloger Miles Kimball Co. has promoted Vicki Updike to vice president of marketing and circulation planning. Updike, who had been director of circulation planning, previously held positions with Lab Safety and Pleasant Co.

Petaluma, CA-based home decor specialty cataloger/retailer Illuminations has named Steve C. Woodward president/chief merchandising officer. Previously, Woodward was senior vice president of The Bombay Co.

Menasha, WI-based printing company Banta Corp. has named Stephanie A. Streeter president/CEO. Current Banta chairman/CEO Donald D. Belcher will continue as chairman of the board until his retirement in April 2004. Streeter has served as president/chief operating officer since January 2001, and was elected to Banta’s board of directors in July of 2001.

The Silver Spring, MD-based Direct Marketing Association of Washington has appointed Dawn Hatzer executive director. Hatzer previously served as director of the Institute for Organization Management, the continuing education program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Schaumburg, IL-based mailing list services provider Daystar Data Group has named John Bruzan account service representative. Bruzan was most recently a project analyst with Experian/Direct Tech.

Holliston, MA-based direct marketing, advertising, and communications agency Direct Advertising has named Nick Alex account executive. Alex was previously South Atlantic license manager of corporate software for the firm.

Longmont, CO-based specialty cataloger Concepts Direct has announced the election of its controller Zaid H. Haddad as chief financial officer, secretary, and treasurer. Cody S. McGarraugh, formerly vice president of finance, chief financial officer, secretary, and treasurer of Concepts Direct, resigned Sept. 3.

Quincy, MA-based women’s apparel cataloger/retailer The J. Jill Group has appointed Robert F. Dakin vice president of retail store operations. Previously, Dakin was executive vice president and director of stores for Brooks Brothers.

Shawnee Mission, KS-based catalog agency J. Schmid & Associates has named Gina Valentino vice president and general manager. Valentino, who most recently served as director of customer relationship management with Spiegel, will oversee the client business and internal strategies.

Greenville, WI-based educational supplies cataloger School Specialty named David Vander Zanden CEO. Vander Zanden has been president/chief operating officer since 1998, and has served as interim CEO since March 2002 following the death of chairman/CEO Dan Spalding. Also, the board of directors named Leo C. McKenna to the non-executive position of chairman of the board.

CDW Government, a wholly owned subsidiary of Vernon Hills, IL-based CDW Computer Centers, has appointed Ann-Marie Clark director of marketing. Prior to joining CDW Government, Clark served as manager of federal marketing for Hewlett-Packard/Compaq.

Clichy, France-based beauty giant L’Oréal has named Julia Fédou director general of its Club des Créateurs de Beauté (CCB) direct sales division, a 50/50 joint venture with cataloger Groupe 3Suisses International. Fédou was most recently director of L’Oréal’s consumer products division in Spain.
