Verizon Rolls Out Pickup Lockers

To the ubiquitous BOPIS, Verizon is now adding BOPIL, aka buy online, pickup at locker, at 250 of its retail locations, to add a layer of convenience and checkout option for its customers, citing consumer data showing consumer interest is growing. Some locations provide 24-hour access, and more lockers are being added monthly.

Pitney Bowes is rolling out a new series of smart lockers that can be used either in office or apartment buildings, college campuses or retail stores that can be configured to use as parcel boxes for individuals to send and receive items, or for picking up ecommerce orders and processing returns.

Pilot Program for Automated Lockers Seeing Success in Seattle

The use of automated lockers for ecommerce deliveries is moving beyond BOPIS applications, with adoption growing in apartment buildings, public transportation areas and even mobile tests. To that end, a shared locker pilot program by the University of Washington’s Urban Freight Lab and Seattle DOT will be expanding next year.

Amazon Lockers Removed from Staples and RadioShack

After a one year test program, Amazon has decided to remove its lockers from both Staples Inc. and RadioShack Corp. Both retailers have said the delivery program either didn’t meet it’s criteria or match up with its fulfillment strategy.
