CNN Money reported last week that Amazon will increase the number of robot workers in its fulfillment centers from 1,000 to 10,000.

It was only a matter of time. As Multichannel Merchant reported back in March 2012, Amazon acquired Kiva Systems for $775 million in cash — a deal which meant Kiva’s robotic technology playing a larger role in the company’s massive distribution/fulfillment network.

An Amazon spokesperson told CNN Money that the use of robots does not mean the sacrifice of human jobs. But it does mean faster fulfillment of your duck carcass press and uranium ore.

What’s next for Amazon? Delivery by drones?
