Each year, 24/7 Wall St. identifies 10 American brands that it predicts will disappear before the end of the following year. And three retailers – Aeropostale, Lululemon and Shutterfly – have made the 2015 list, which published last week.
But should Aeropostale, Lululemon and Shutterfly be worried about their designation? Yes and no. The methodology uses does send out a fair warning for the three retailers: Aeropostale is losing to inexpensive fashion-forward retailers like Forever 21 and H&M, Shutterfly is a Web 1.0 business in a social media world, and see-through yoga pants aside, Lululemon’s net income is collapsing.
24/7 Wall St. points out that in 5 years, just less than 50% of the companies that made the list have disappeared. And when you look at the retailers that have made the list, that percentage is much lower. Here’s a look at merchants that have made past “10 Brands That Will Disappear” lists, and a look at their fates.
