Mobile Sparks 37% Rise in Wayfair.com’s Black Friday Weekend Sales

reported more than $3.5 million in Black Friday sales, and a 37% increase in holiday weekend sales compared to Thanksgiving weekend 2011. In addition, Wayfair.com more than doubled the percent of revenue from mobile as shoppers snapped up deals on everything from lamps to barstools to generate one sale every three seconds throughout the day.

Shop.org Says More Shoppers Ready for Cyber Monday

According to a survey conducted for Shop.org by BIGinsight, 129.2 million Americans plan to shop on Cyber Monday this year, up from the 122.8 million who shopped last year, and the 106.9 million who shopped on Cyber Monday in 2010.

Ecommerce Sales Top $1 Billion on Black Friday

Online measurement firm comScore today reported U.S. retail e-commerce spending surpassed $1 billion on Black Friday, up 26% vs. Black Friday 2011. But Black Friday was not the only big day for ecommerce. comScore reported a 32% rise in Thanksgiving Day shopping to $663 million.

Led by iPad, Mobile Commerce Exceeds 16% of Online Sales

Shoppers once again took advantage of early promotions this holiday season, driving a 17.4 percent increase in online sales Thanksgiving Day. This increase set the stage for 20.7 percent growth on Black Friday. The biggest surge came from mobile consumers, with sales reaching 16.3 percent, led by the iPad. This data is the result of cloud-based analytics findings from IBM.

Overall, online sales were up close to 24 percent over 2011. But what really stood out this year was the impact of mobile. As retailers continue to deliver multi-screen experiences that connect customers with personalized deals across multiple screens including PCs, smartphones, and tablets, mobile traffic soared to 27.8 percent, with the number of consumers using a movable device to make a purchase reaching 14.4 percent.

Rue La La announced today that it recorded record-breaking Thanksgiving Day sales and traffic across online and mobile. The company reported a more than 75% increase in mobile sales over last year, with 50% of mobile sales coming through the iPad. The company projects an over 50% increase in overall sales this holiday weekend over last year.
