Brookstone Bouncing Back

Second-quarter net sales for gifts and gadgets cataloger/retailer Brookstone (Nasdaq: BKST), which mails the Hard-to-Find Tools, Gardener’s Eden, and Brookstone catalogs, increased 9.4% to $99.9 million. That’s up from $91.3 million for the same period last year. For the three-month period ended June 30, same-store sales increased 2.1%.

The Merrimack, NH-based merchant does not break out direct sales results, but CEO Lou Mancini said in a release: “Our direct-to-consumer business continues to drive increases in both sales and profitability.” Brookstone nearly cut its net loss in half from a year ago. For the second quarter, the company’s net loss was $6.46 million, compared to $10.9 million for the period in 2006.
