Brookstone Reports Wider 3Q Loss

Merrimack, NH-based tools and gadgets merchant Brookstone reported a wider third-quarter net loss, a result of the disposition of its Gardeners Eden brand. (See “Brookstone to Sell Gardeners Eden.”)

For the three months ended Oct. 29, Brookstone lost $13.4 million, $11.7 million of which it attributed to Gardeners Eden, which the company describes as discontinued operations. For the third quarter of last year it had posted a net loss of $6.7 million.

Third-quarter net sales slid 7%, to $76.7 million. Direct-marketing sales remained flat at $13.9 million. Same-store sales decreased 11%.
