New York–Consumer Confidence levels continue to free fall. The Consumer Confidence Outlook Index from New York-based market researcher The Conference Board fell for the fifth consecutive month in February to 106.8—the lowest level since June 1996, when the index was 100.1.
The monthly Consumer Confidence index is based on a representative sampling of 5,000 U.S. households. “The erosion in consumer confidence continues to be fueled by weakening expectations regarding business and employment conditions,” said Lynn Franco, director of the Conference Board’s research center in a statement.
