“There is a lot of crossover between what a cheerleader would wear and what a dancer would wear,” says Stephen Clough, co-owner, with wife Cindy, of the Just for Kix catalog of apparel and accessories for young dancers. With that in mind, next month Just for Kix is launching a spin-off, Just for Cheer, that will sell pompoms, warm-up suits, bags, and other supplies for cheerleaders.
The Baxter, MN-based cataloger will mail 250,000 copies of the 32-page Just for Cheer to cheerleaders who requested the book through the Just for Kix Website or through inserts in cheerleading publications such as “American Cheerleader,” as well as to names rented from the publications.
“We thought there was a call for more products and items for the cheer industry,” Stephen Clough says. “Most companies are marketing through coaches and teams. We’re also going after the end user.”
The new catalog will most likely announce on its cover, “Just for Kix presents Just for Cheer,” Clough says. “We’ve spent a lot of time promoting Just for Kix,” he notes. “We don’t want to look back, and see that we made a wrong decision.” He expects to mail Just for Cheer twice a year, in August and in February. Just for Kix, which has an annual circulation of 750,000, mails quarterly.
