Just a week after its union ratified a new contract, Atlanta-based parcel carrier United Parcel Service reached a tentative contract on Sept. 10 with its unionized mechanics and other workers at its inhouse airline. The five-year deal has to be approved by the 1,140 members of Teamsters Local 2727, who previously rejected a four-year deal. That deal called for a top wage for mechanics of $40; the new deal calls for a $43 wage cap. If ratified, the deal, which includes retroactive pay back to August 2001, could take place within a month.
