Startup using digital assistants to help shoppers discover the perfect products will showcase their technology at CES 2021
Southampton, UK, Jan. 5, 2021 — BOON, a startup from Southampton, is using its artificial intelligence technology and psychology research to help online shoppers find the perfect products for themselves or a gift recipient whilst retaining complete control of their data.
More than 90% of consumers say they want better control of their data, which is a challenge for conventional tracking-based product recommendation technology. BOON founders Dylan Grey and Mike Oakley developed a new recommendation engine which engages users in anonymous data collection through fun, image-based questions designed from psychology research.
The technology was in development for over a year and caught the attention of retailers for integration into their websites to improve their online experience with a fun and personal touch.
In the lead-up to Christmas, BOON’s recommendation engine helped thousands of shoppers discover the best gifts for their partners, friends, children and relatives, from tens of thousands of options. The questions only take a minute to complete making it a quicker and more painless process than scrolling through product listings.
Shoppers can instantly replace any of their recommendations to curate a list of top picks. BOON’s AI continuously learns and improves from anonymous feedback like this, so each subsequent shopper gets a better experience and better recommendations.
“We believe it’s important to give people control of their data, but also know that consumers want more personalised, seamless experiences,” said Boon CEO Grey. “Our psychology-based approach means we can offer privacy and deliver market-leading recommendations and personalisation.”
“Demand for this kind of fun and personal experience has been accelerated by the rise in online shopping due to the COVID,” Grey said. “We really see it as a win-win for retailers and consumers: retailers increase their sales dramatically through the technology and consumers have a great, unique experience as they shop”
BOON is exhibiting at the 2021 virtual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) from the 11th January with support from Future Worlds, the University of Southampton’s startup accelerator.
