The Supreme Court Wayfair Decision: Now What?


In June the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its landmark South Dakota vs. Wayfair decision. By overturning the 1992 Quill ruling the high court tossed out the concept of physical location for determining nexus that requires sales tax collection. With their world turned upside down, ecommerce merchants everywhere are asking “now what?”

Prior to joining Vertex, Mike was in various tax leadership roles at Microsoft Corporation for 28 years, the most recent being Senior Director – Tax Counsel.

    Nancy Manzano is a Director in the Chief Tax Office at Vertex, responsible for insight and thought leadership regarding in-house corporate tax department operations, spanning income, global and transaction tax.
    Nancy’s areas of expertise include federal, state and local corporate income taxation and accounting for income taxes and her particular focus has been on tax for the financial services industry. Prior to joining Vertex, Nancy was a Tax Director at 21st Century/Farmers Insurance and MBNA America Bank. She was also a Supervising Tax Analyst at in the Philadelphia office of KPMG.

    Mark Sieczkowski, has over 20 years of IT Product and Project Management experience. Mark joined Vertex Inc., in 2013 as Senior Product Manager, O-Series. He was responsible for supply chain management and ensuring solution delivery of both hardware and software projects.
