E-commerce marketplace eBay said it saw a surge in m-commerce sales this holiday season.
Lorrie Norrington, president of eBay marketplaces, said the number of items bought via eBay mobile apps this year was triple last year’s holiday volume.
The company said in a statement that 1.5 million items were bought on eBay using mobile phones worldwide this holiday. Nearly 6 million people have eBay on their iPhone and the company said shoppers are making 750,000 unique visits a day to eBay via mobile apps.
For 2009, eBay buyers and sellers are generating more than half a billion dollars of transactions via mobile. eBay claims an item is purchased every two seconds on eBay mobile.
eBay has had a WAP site since 2007 and launched an iPhone app last year, and integrated PayPal into the eBay mobile Website and iPhone application in 2009 to deliver mobile consumers an end-to-end mobile shopping experience.
