SHARPER IMAGE CATALOG RETURNS

Relaunched Gifts and Gadgets Merchant The Sharper Image in June mailed a 68-page gifts catalog. The company plans a total of five catalog mailings for this year, centered on Father’s Day and the holiday season. Sharper Image’s mailing plans for 2010 “are in the high multimillion level,” says Steve August, senior vice president/chief marketing officer.

Sharper Image Corp. filed for bankruptcy in February 2008 and was acquired in May 2008 by three private investment firms. The new owners closed the brand’s 183 stores and relaunched Sharperimage.com last fall.

While the company has attempted to “capture the essence of the catalog from years past,” August says, the new catalog is designed to support a direct marketing response model “as opposed to being used to drive traffic to Sharper Image stores.”
