Digital River, Inc. has appointed Marco Vergani as its general manager and vice president of EMEA to oversee sales, marketing and operations in the region. Vergani joins Digital River from IBM, where he built a 25-year career developing and managing pan-European sales operations.
Based in Digital River’s London office, Vergani will manage the company’s operations in Austria, England, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Russia and Sweden.
Vergani most recently served as IBM’s vice president of European sales for the Global Process Services division. In this senior executive role at IBM, Marco was charged with optimizing resources and managing an expanding organization across the fast growing European market.
During his career at IBM, Vergani also spent five years leading IBM’s Retail Store Solutions division across EMEA. There he ran sales, managed strategic alliances, opened new distribution channels, and conceptualized and developed advanced point-of-sales solutions for worldwide markets.
“Marco has an extensive track record of successfully managing complex global account opportunities, and coordinating legal, solution, delivery and pricing teams in the IT, software and outsourcing services industries,” said David Dobson, Digital River’s chief executive officer. “His international experience paired with his customer centric approach to business development will be valuable assets as we bring even more focus to our expansion strategies in the EMEA region.”
International revenue accounted for approximately 52% of Digital River’s total revenue in 2013. Digital River’s Europe-based customers include leading brands, such as AVAST Software, Kaspersky Lab, Logitech, Sennheiser and Spotify.
