Apparel merchant Lands’ End has launched its January digital catalog with enhanced service functions including touch, pinch and zoom gestures developed for the iPad.
Future editions of the iPad-optimized digital version will feature unique content such as video, according to the company. A Lands’ End iPad app is available via Apple’s app store.
The app enables users to browse and shop from the digital edition; touching an item number directs them to the product page on Landsend.com. From there, the user can select a size and color and then return to the catalog for more browsing without ever leaving the app.
Why an iPad app now? Lands’ End spokesperson Michele Casper says the merchant was inspired to develop the app because of customer feedback and the rise in numbers seen in its analytics of users accessing Landsend.com/ecatalog via iPads.
The iPad version of the Lands’ End catalog is not the merchant’s first attempt to engage the mobile shopper, however. Lands’ End has digital catalog apps available for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Casper says the company also recently launched mobile shops for its Landsend.com and Landsendcanvas.com sites. These allow mobile users without Apple-based mobile platforms to access a mobile-optimized version of those sites.
