Business intelligence solution provider Business Objects agreed to acquire privately held data-quality software and services provider Firstlogic on Feb. 8. Business Objects will pay approximately $69 million in an all-cash transaction.
Building on the company’s enterprise information management (EIM) strategy, Business Objects CEO John Schwarz said this acquisition will provide customers with a single, consistent view of their business, improve the trust and confidence in the information needed to make better decisions, and accelerate compliance initiatives.
“Building a business intelligence strategy without a complete EIM solution is like trying to complete a puzzle without all the pieces,” Schwarz said in a statement. “With the acquisition of Firstlogic, we acquire one of the most important pieces of the EIM puzzle, data quality.”
Firstlogic and Business Objects have been technology partners since April 2004 and currently support joint multichannel customers including Harry & David Operations Corp.
The acquisition is expected to be complete in the second quarter of 2006, and Business Objects spokesperson Peter Olson said it will be “business as usual” for both companies until then. The company has not announced if Firstlogic will run as a separate entity or be rebranded under the Business Objects umbrella.
