Historic Aviation Launches Spin-off

For history and war buffs, there is a new catalog that might be just right for you. Mailer Historic Aviation has launched a spin-off called Military Issue, which focuses on military history “from World War I right up to the war in Iraq,” says Chris Jaeger, Historic Aviations’ product manager for historic sales.

The Military Issue catalog and Website (www.militaryissue.com) sell model kits, books, videos/DVDs, posters, and replicas of historic military items. A kit for making a 1/144-scale USS Seawolf Submarine costs $32.95, while a replica of a German paratrooper helmet sells for $159.

The 64-page catalog debuted in January; a second drop is scheduled for the end of April. Four drops are scheduled for this year, with the Minneapolis-based company expecting to mail a total of 1.5 million-2 million copies.

“We want to see if the catalog works,” Jaeger says. “Basically, we had two other brands, Historic Aviation and the Historic Rail catalog. With the Historical Aviation catalog, the military segment has continued to grow, and it’s a strong category. We figured why not open it up to a larger audience.”
