Bon-Ton announced on March 5 that it has signed a lease for a 743,000 square-foot direct-to-consumer fulfillment center in West Jefferson, Ohio in response to its growing ecommerce operations.
According to the merchant, the new facility will consolidate the ecommerce fulfillment that is currently being performed at four distribution centers located in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois.
In the release, Brendan Hoffman, president and CEO, said the consolidation of distribution centers was “in response to the rapid growth in our ecommerce business.” The new fulfillment center, he said, “will permit significant expansion of our shipping capacity with improved operational efficiency.”
According to a press release issued by Bon-Ton, once the new facility is fully operational, the fulfillment center will employ roughly 139 new Ohio associates, with additional seasonal jobs expected to be created during the peak holiday season.
For those working at the other four distribution centers, Bon-Ton said, they will be offered “the opportunity to interview for available positions at the new West Jefferson facility or receive career transition benefits, including severance.”
Bon-Ton said in the release that it anticipates the new facility to be fully operational and ship its first orders in spring of 2015.
