I’m a letter carrier, and I understand completely what you’re talking about. It’s good to see someone in the media actually empathizing with the work we do in the Postal Service. We have a saying where I work when we have a customer who receives large amounts of mail: “It’s job security.” I personally feel that the key to “postal service” is a good rapport with our customers. But with all that has happened within the Postal Service (shootings and all), I must point out that the USPS is very sensitive about talk of violence involving a postal employee. I don’t mean to be a stick in the mud, but we have a branch of federal law enforcement that watches over our shoulder all the time, and any talk of “going postal” catches their attention. Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your article.
P.S.: Keep shopping: it’s good for business!
