(Direct Newsline) The Direct Marketing Association bought the DMD Marketing Conference & Expo on Monday, DMD confirmed. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“I think both sides to the transaction got what they wanted out if it and I think the show will do very well under the DMA’s ownership,” says William Black, chairman of the board of DMD.
DMD was owned by four partners: Chuck Cavanagh, president and CEO; Art Blumenfield, vice chairman and executive vice president; and Thomas J. Turner, executive vice president and COO; and Fred Tarter, director.
The 38-year-old conference has been on the market for about two years.
Attendees complained about the timing of the show last year because it conflicted with the Annual Catalog Conference, co-owned by CATALOG AGE and the DMA. This year, DMD is scheduled to run June 2 to 4 in New York, while the Catalog Conference is scheduled for June1 to 3 in San Francisco. Marketers cannot attend both conferences, they complain.
The DMA did not return calls by deadline.
