According to an article in CMS Wire, Facebook has announced that has acquired Face.com, a face recognition program already in use by the social media monster.
Various media outlets are reporting that the deal cost between $80 and $100 million, but the actual terms of the deal are still hush-hush. Face.com uses a technology that analyzes upload photos and compares the faces in already existing photos on Facebook. It then suggests a name of one of your friends to tag.
Facebook spokeswoman Ashley Zandy told the San Fransico Chronicle “People who use Facebook enjoy sharing photos and memories with their friends, and Face.com’s technology has helped to provide the best photo experience.”
“This transaction simply brings a world-class team and a longtime technology vendor in house.”
