(Direct Newsline) A major fire Friday at printing firm Quad/Graphics caused the collapse of a 10-story paper and product storage building at the site. The building had been used to store unfinished magazine and catalog pages ready for production, the company said.
One person was killed, a nonemployee, Keith Freiberg, 22, the passenger of a car parked next to the building when the structure collapsed at about 9:30 p.m., according to the Fond Du Lac (WI) “Reporter.”
The fire broke out in the building adjacent to the main printing plant in Lomira, WI. The manufacturing facility was undamaged and remains fully operational. The magazine and catalog pages destroyed by the fire are already being reprinted, the company said.<-> The plant is about 2 million sq. ft., located about 2 miles north of the village of Lomira.
About 25 fire departments and 200 firefighters and rescue personnel responded to the scene. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
