Mixed Apparel Flattens Out: List universe market snapshot

The Mixed-gender Apparel Universe — consisting of buyers of men’s and women’s clothing — increased by 11%, or 1.6 million names, in the past year, according to New York-based list brokerage services firm ParadyszMatera.

The primary reason for the growth is a huge increase in the file size of Blair Corp., which released its entire file to the market in the third quarter of 2007. It was previously withholding a portion of its house file. Had this not happened, the total universe would be relatively flat.

L.L. Bean leads with more than 4.4 million names, followed by Blair, Haband, Eddie Bauer and J. Crew.
