This move by Apple can only add to the iPhone frenzy. On Monday, Apple announced it has sold over five million iPhone 5’s, just three days after its launch on September 21.
According to AppleInsider, “Apple’s retail employees have begun informing customers that Personal Pickups for iPhone 5 orders will begin this evening.”
AppleInsider also reports that “retail Apple stores across the U.S. are said to have begun receiving shipments of new iPhone 5 units on Monday that will be held for customers to reserve through the Personal Pickup program on Tuesday.”
According to AppleInsider, “an announcement about the policy change was reportedly made internally to Apple’s employees on Monday. Word then began spreading as the day went on.”
While no official word has been made public by Apple, according to the Apple store site, customers can buy the iPhone 5 on September 26 and 25 “between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. for in-store pickup the next day. Limited quantities may also be available for in-store pickup on a first-come, first-served basis.”
