In a press release, Pitney Bowes said “Dooney & Bourke is using Pitney Bowes’s e-commerce solutions to offer international buyers the ability to receive a guaranteed, fully-landed cost quote that includes importation fees during the online checkout process.”
According to the release, by displaying “fully-landed” costs upfront will allow for “no surprises” for the buyer.
David Burbine, web director at Dooney &Bourke, said in an email to Multichannel Merchant, by using the Pitney Bowes service “Foreign shoppers can now view their customized costs for shipping, taxes and duties right on the checkout page. They can also choose from scaled shipping options with estimated delivery times.”
Burbine said, “This simplifies the shopping experience for the customer and eliminates any unwelcome surprises. Most importantly, the service allows Dooney & Bourke to offer significantly lower shipping fees worldwide.”
So how is this different than what was done previously? According to Burbine, “In the past, each international order was processed on an individual basis. It was difficult and time consuming for the company to provide accurate, up-to-date information on each country’s taxes and duties, and the shipping fees were often prohibitively high.”
By switching over to the new service, Burbine said he anticipates that it will boost sales at Dooney & Bourkey since it will give international customers “a much easier and less expensive way” to buy products.
He also said it will “increase global awareness of our brand and have a positive impact on sales long term.”
