Ingram Micro, the world’s largest technology distributor, today announced it acquired business-to-business electronics accessories mailer DBL Distributing for $96 million.
DBL Distributing publishes a massive consumer electronics wholesale catalog–1,100 pages selling more than 17,000 products. As part of the deal, $31.4 billion Ingram Micro also bought NXG Technology, DBL’s exclusive brand of custom audio and video installation products.
Jim Trainor, spokesperson for Santa Ana, CA-based Ingram Micro, says DBL Distributing recorded sales of $300 million in 2006. “We’ve made it clear we had a pretty focused consumer electronics strategy,” he says. “It’s a good fit for us as far as expanding the consumer electronics area.”
Ingram Micro two years ago bought AVAD, a large home technology distributor, for $120 million. “DBL makes us a leader in the independent retail market,” Trainor says. “Especially with the stores they cover. They have 350 employees and there won’t be any changes.” DBL president/CEO David Lorsch will remain in place through June 2008, Trainor adds.
Ingram Micro CEO Greg Spierkel said the acquisition of Scottsdale, AZ-based DBL Distributing places his company at the forefront of two significant trends: the continuing convergence of commercial and consumer technologies and the growing importance of retailers in the marketplace. “The transaction is an example of how we plan to deploy capital in the future — through strategic acquisitions that spur growth, enhance profitability, and expand our addressable market.”
