More Pickup Towers, additional pickup options and innovations coming in 2018
DURHAM, N.C., Dec. 13, 2017 — Bell and Howell announced today that it will significantly expand the number of click-and-collect pickup locations it installs throughout the United States in 2018. The expansion of this unique “buy online, pickup in store” solution builds on the more than 100 “Pickup Towers” Bell and Howell installed in Walmart locations this year.
“We are proud of the role we are playing in helping revolutionize the omnichannel retail model with cutting-edge, click-and-collect technology – all in an effort to quickly get items to customers in ways that are most convenient and efficient,” said Bell and Howell CEO Ramesh Ratan, Ph.D. “Our solutions are helping Walmart create a world-class pickup experience by reducing friction for its customers and helping bring together its digital and physical retail offerings in a fun and unique way.”
The Pickup Tower offers customers fast and easy access to products they’ve ordered on Walmart.com and want to pick up in a store. Once an online order is ready, the customer is sent an email or text notification with a code. They then simply walk up to the Pickup Tower in the Walmart store they’ve selected, scan their code, and receive their order in less than 15 seconds.
“Pickup Towers are one important way we are using the latest technology to provide our customers with a quick and convenient pickup experience,” said Mark Ibbotson, executive vice president of central operations for Walmart U.S. “Our customers are telling us how much they like the towers – it’s helping them save time and money and empowering them to shop how, when and where they want to.”
Bell and Howell is the exclusive distributor in North America of the Pickup Tower, a 16-foot robotics-based parcel terminal called the PackRobot, which is manufactured by Cleveron, a leading European developer of self-service click-and-collect technology.
