How important is a multichannel experience to U.S. consumers?
Bonn, April 28, 2023 – Scanbot SDK, a leading provider of software development kits for mobile barcode and document scanning and data capture, has released a survey exploring U.S. consumers’ preferences and expectations for multichannel retail, online and offline shopping, and self-checkout technology. The survey was conducted on April 6, 2023, and surveyed 1,000 U.S. consumers.
The survey results showed that more than half of respondents, 51.1%, would choose to shop online rather than in a store if they had to choose between the two. 50.6% of consumers said the number one reason they prefer to buy certain things in a brick-and-mortar store is because they can physically interact with the product. Convenience was cited as the top benefit of shopping online by 55.1% of respondents, who found the ability to shop anytime, anywhere to be a big draw.
The survey also found that the vast majority of respondents have used a retailer’s mobile application at least once (83.1%) and that 82.4% of respondents have used their smartphone for Scan & Go or would like to try it.
Scanbot SDK’s survey underscores that offering multichannel retail options is critical to staying competitive in today’s retail market. It is not an either/or choice, and consumers prefer to have multiple options when shopping. The survey results also suggest that retailers should strive to provide a seamless customer experience that integrates the benefits of both online and offline shopping. Retailers must ensure that the products they promote online are always in stock, and they must be able to effectively manage their inventory and supply chain.
