Computer, industrial supplies, and office products manufacturer/marketer Systemax is merging two of its facilities in Port Washington, NY, and laying off about 50 workers. The move is intended to improve efficiency and cut costs.
Systemax also announced that it will report a pretax charge of approximately $13.5 million for the quarter ended June 30. The charge reflects not only the layoffs and facility closure but also the discontinuance of a customer order management software system that was being written for use inhouse.
