Sport Supply Group Acquires Har-Bell Assets

Sport Supply Group has snapped up another one. Exactly a month after buying certain assets from Gus Doerner Sports, the sports equipment merchant marketer said Thursday it bought some team sports assets from Har-Bell Athletic Goods.

Based in Springfield, MO, Har-Bell sells team athletic gear to high school, college and youth leagues. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but Har-Bell owner Bryan Tucker and his existing sales force in Missouri will be employed by Sport Supply.

Like previous acquisitions this year, the deal provides inroads to a regional market. Har-Bell will bring Dallas-based Sport Supply closer to its Midwestern customers, according to Sport Supply Group chairman/CEO Adam Blumenfeld.

“The Har-Bell sales force can leverage the infrastructure, technology and support backbone that SSG provides, and SSG benefits from the personal relationships Har-Bell has built over many years in the business,” Blumenfeld said in a release.

Sport Supply Group is #66 on the 2009 MCM 100 ranking. The company in late June acquired the assets of Webster’s Team Sports, a Pompano Beach, FL-based team sports distributor to schools, colleges and youth leagues.
