Another Good Quarter for Jos. A. Bank

Jos. A. Bank Clothiers posted another solid quarter, with gains in both the top and bottom lines. The men’s apparel cataloger/retailer’s sales for the second quarter of fiscal 2009 rose 9.8%, to $167.7 million, up from $152.7 million for the period in 2008.

The Hampstead, MD-based company’s direct sales decreased 6.7% for the quarter, which ended Aug. 1. Net income soared 42%, to $12.5 million, up from $8.8 million for the same quarter last year. Same-store sales increased 6.2%.

Jos. A. Bank, which in addition to its catalog and Web business owns 465 stores in 42 states, specializes in men’s tailored and casual attire. According to a company release, Jos. A. Bank Clothiers has now posted earnings growth in 31 of the past 32 quarters.
