Online Buying Slowed in January

Reston, VA–PC Data’s Report on the top 20 Internet merchants shows that online buying activity was sluggish in January. The company’s ranking places Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com, and Ticketmaster.com in the top three positions. Although Amazon’s and Barnesandnoble’s buyer counts were double what they had been in January 2000, their buyer lists were half of what they had logged in December 2000. Amazon reported 2.3 million buyers in January 2001 compared to 3.9 million in December 2000; Barnesandnoble had 638,000 buyers in January, down from 951,000 in December.
