THE REASON: Spending by Sears Holdings to promote Kmart and Sears may cost more that the holding company can afford, wrote 24/7 Wall St. “It certainly makes sense to kill off the Kmart name and re-label all of the stores with Sears,” 24/7 Wall St. wrote. “It could save hundreds of millions in promotion dollars every year.”

TODAY: Kmart is still alive and has a bit of a pulse. And Sears Holdings seems to be creating more synergies between it and Sears. For example, in a move to consolidate its omnichannel offerings, Sears and Kmart will let customers pick up online orders at either store.
