Wildfires Spare Southern CA Mailers

But merchants based in the region had more pressing concerns, such as evacuations, air quality, distribution problems, and of course, general terror that the flames would reach them.

Financial Reports: United Stationers, Wayside, Zones

Third-quarter sales for Des Plaines, IL-based office supplies merchant United Stationers rose 1.5%, to $1.19 billion, from $1.17 billion for the three-month period ended Sept. 30. Growth in the janitorial and break room, office products, and office furniture categories was partially offset by lower technology sales, company officials said. But net income dropped nearly 30%, to $27.5 million, compared with $39.2 million for the same period last year.

IWLA Starts C-TPAT Compliance Program

The International Warehouse Logistics Association (IWLA) recently announced a C-TPAT compliance program for third-party warehouses. The IWLA says its program is based on security best practices guidelines it has developed; the guidelines have earned endorsement of the Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
