Liberty Media, parent company of the QVC home shopping TV network, announced on May 7 that it has acquired controlling interest of Backcountry.com. Terms of the deal, expected to close in the second quarter, were not disclosed.
In addition to its titular Website and catalog, which sell outdoor gear, Backcountry.com also operates discounters BackcountryOutlet.com, SteepandCheap.com, and WhiskeyMilitia.com, ski supplies site TramDock.com, snowboard specialty site DogFunk.com.
Backcountry isn’t Liberty Media’s first e-commerce acquisition. In the fourth quarter of 2005 the Englewood, CO-based company acquired Provide Commerce, the parent company of ProFlowers, fruit and produce merchant Cherry Moon Farms, and meats seller Uptown Prime.
