In a sign of the times in traditional retail, Lord & Taylor is beginning to shut down its iconic flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York City with a closing sale this week.
The New York Post reported that the store known for its six holiday window displays will limit them to just two this year as it unwinds operations. The displays will celebrate the Lord & Taylor brand and give a “thank you” to its patrons.
Parent Hudson’s Bay Company, which also owns Saks Fifth Avenue, plans to keep Lord & Taylor’s other 45 locations open even with the flagship closure, according to the Post.
In June, Hudson’s Bay announced the closing of up to 10 Lord & Taylor stores over the next year, including the flagship Manhattan location, to focus on its digital presence.
