Sears is cutting ties with Whirlpool products including Maytag and KitchenAid appliances, following a pricing dispute between Sears and its 101-year-old relationship with Whirlpool.
The Washington Post reported that Whirlpool announced it would raise prices on raw materials for its products since costs have gotten higher and told Sears it would end its relationship with them.
“We simply could not reach terms that were acceptable to both parties,” Marc Bitzer, Whirlpool’s chief executive, said on a Tuesday call with investors.
The dispute highlights the ongoing tension between manufacturers and retailers over how much products should cost. Retailers are known to offer discounts to get the customer, while manufacturers are struggling with expenses and overseas competition.
