Staples Started Holiday Season Early

For office supplies merchant Staples, Black Friday and Cyber Monday came early this year.

Staples senior vice president Steve Bussberg says the shopping deals began Nov. 7.

“We’ve seen a real appetite from our customers to start the deals earlier than Cyber Monday,” he says. “In fact, we had great deals and savings on Thanksgiving Day and are encouraged by the response of our customers. We also offered deals on Black Friday and actually began the season on Nov. 7 with offers on Staples.com every Monday, so our holiday season has been in full swing for a while.”

Although he can’t disclose numbers, Bussberg says Cyber Monday traffic typically rises nearly three times compared to a normal business day so “we know it resonates with shoppers.”

Bussberg says Staples launched a new mobile website earlier this year and “we’re encouraged with what we’re seeing in terms of adoption from our customers there.”

With Staples.com holiday center — also built for mobile – Bussberg says “we’re making it easy for shoppers to save time and money, while finding gifts for everyone on their list. Our customers are also taking advantage of free delivery, offered for the first time this year.”

Some of the hottest items this year have been the Garmin nubi 1450LMT Portable GPS, the LG 32”1080p Class LED LCD TV, the HP Pavilion p6-2026 Desktop PC, and the Nikon Coolpix S6100 Digital Camera.
