Washington—The U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors (BOG) plans to announce on May 8 that it will overrule the Postal Rate Commission (PRC) and implement rate increases of up to 3%. The increase follows January’s rate hike, in which the PRC reduced the USPS’s rate increase from 6% to 4.6% across all rate categories.
The BOG has twice appealed the PRC’s rate-hike reduction, but to no avail. By law, if the nine presidentially appointed postal governors vote unanimously, as is expected, they can overrule the PRC and raise the rates as high as, but no greater than, their initial 6% proposal.
