The Baltic country of Estonia has plans to become a global giant in ecommerce by offering e-residency IDs and opening its doors to doing business online throughout the European Union.
Estonia is claiming it is the first country to offer e-residency identification cards to people worldwide, according to Business Insider. This venture known as “10 million Estonians” is set to take effect in December.
In theory, anyone can apply for e-residency for the equivalent of 50 Euros ($62), and obtain an Estonian digital ID card providing access to both government and private sector e-services that slash the cost of doing business – without conferring citizenship rights.
