Active lifestyle travel cataloger Backroads has acquired Bike Riders, a similar provider of biking, walking and culinary tours.
Massimo Prioreschi, vice president-sales and marketing for Backroads, said his company plans to fold Boston-based Bike Riders Tours into Backroads within a year.
Founded in 1991, Bike Riders specializes in adventure trips in New England, Europe and Canada.
Backroads founder/president Tom Hale said in a statement the acquisition will benefit Bike Rider Tours customers because they will have access to more options, including more destinations and departures, while experiencing the same service levels.
Founded in 1977, Backroads offers 150 active trips, including specific family-friendly itineraries, on five continents. Berkeley, CA-based Backroads has more than 900 departures scheduled for 2010.
