New York–In an attempt to reverse its sagging fortunes, U.K.-based cataloger/retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S) has put its Brooks Brothers division up for sale. Marks & Spencer had bought the men’s apparel cataloger/retailer in 1987 for $750 million. M&S also plans to pull out of continental Europe, sell its Kings Super Markets chain, and fold its U.K. catalog business.
Last week, Reuters reported that upscale cataloger/retailers Saks and Nieman Marcus Group were among those considering bidding for Brooks Brothers.
