Celebrate Express Celebrates 39% Jump in 2Q Sales

Judging from its most recent quarterly results, Celebrate Express has a reason to rejoice. For its second quarter of fiscal 2006, ended Nov. 30, the Kirkland, WA-based merchant of party supplies, children’s costumes, and girls’ apparel had sales of $26.1 million, up 39% from $18.8 million the previous second quarter. The company credited much of the growth to an 82% leap in sales within its Costume Express brand.

The Web accounted for roughly 70% of revenue for the quarter, thanks to “a more aggressive approach with our online marketing initiatives,” according to a statement, along with an expanded product line. But those initiatives appear to have eaten into the bottom line. Net income was $427,000, down from $685,000 12 months prior.

In addition to Costume Express, Celebrate Express owns Birthday Express and Storybook Heirlooms.
