Washington–Nearly one-half of 1% of all retail sales were conducted on the Internet in 1999, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s first-ever report on e-commerce. The study found that business-to-business transactions accounted from more than 90% of all online transactions.
The study also found that multichannel catalogers that sell goods online and by catalog generate more Internet sales than their brick-and-mortar counterparts. The most popular product categories, the study concluded, are computer hardware, and books and magazines.
