Broomfield, CO-based office supplies and computer conglomerate Corporate Express laid off about 60 employees at its Newark, CA-based distribution center as the company outsources a portion of its delivery operations business to South Hackensack, NJ-based Consolidated Delivery & Logistics. According to company spokesperson Van Hindes, Corporate Express wanted to improve customer service at the Newark facility.
The $4.5 billion Corporate Express, which mails the Office & Computer Sourcebook, Business Furniture Sourcebook, and the Strictly Business Catalog for Midsize Businesses, has also contracted with Consolidated to make deliveries for its distribution centers in California and New York. Hindes says that no additional layoffs are planned.
