According to Owatonna, MN-based executive search firm Bernhart Associates, the new-hire index for direct marketing companies is at a four-year high. “These surveys don’t predict what’s to come,” says the search firm’s president, Jerry Bernhart. “But if the economy is doing well, the marketing industry will usually follow with jobs.”
A robust 80% of the companies surveyed said they plan to add to existing staffs before the end of this calendar year. The one slightly sour note: 6% of respondents plan to reduce headcount by the end of the year, compared with 2% of those who had responded to the previous survey this summer.
