1-800-Flowers.com Improves Net Loss

Westbury, NY–Multichannel marketer 1-800-Flowers.com (NASDAQ: FLWS) enjoyed a 9% hike in third-quarter revenue, bringing sales to $79.2 million for the three months ended Sept. 30. What’s more, the company, which owns catalogers Plow & Hearth, HearthSong, and Magic Cabin Dolls in addition to its flagship online/offline operation, cut its third-quarter net loss from $22.5 million last year to $8.9 million.

Breaking it down by channel, 1-800-Flowers’ online revenue increased 21%, to $32.3 million from $25.4 million a year ago. Telephone revenue declined 1%, to $41.0 million from last year’s $41.3 million, in keeping with the company’s efforts to migrate customers to the Web.

Yankee Candle Posts 18% Net Income Increase South Deerfield, MA–Cataloger/retailer The Yankee Candle Co. (NYSE: YCC) posted an 18% gain in third-quarter net income and a 12% rise in sales. For the three months ended Sept. 29, the purveyor of scented candles reported net income of $8.5 million on sales of $84.9 million. Retail and catalog sales totaled $40.6 million, up 13% from the previous third quarter. Wholesale sales, including European operations, increased 11%, to $44.3 million.
