Food cataloger Harry and David on Nov. 4 began airing a pair of 60-second TV commercials that it will continue showing throughout the holiday season. The new TV campaign, the company’s first in 10 years, will air on CNN, Discovery, Lifetime, and Oxygen Network.
The spots, developed by Sausalito, CA-based catalog marketing firm Haggin Marketing, are being tested against one another. One ad offers a Harry and David best-seller, Tower of Treats, for $29.95. The other offers Tower of Treats along with other foods as a package deal for $36.95.
Although Medford, OR-based Harry and David had success with TV commercials in the early 1990s, “it chose to focus more on the traditional catalog model for the past several years,” says spokesperson Kathryn Grant. “But because its retail presence has increased significantly, now was a good time to reach a broader market through TV.” The company operates 145 stores.
